Amazing
Grace
This is dedicated to
a Gas Chamber Survivor who had simply been
a stray
It was on a Thursday 20th
of July in the year 2006. There were four healthy,
loving, and playful dogs who unknowingly witnessed
only last night their final sunset.
We would be put in a barbaric carbon dioxide gas
chamber to face a painful death
I must tell my horrid story so the world will
be unable
to ever forget.
The nervous shelter workers mood was noticeably and painfully somber.
They had no spoken words today. We did not receive our usual pat and hug.
This morning's routine made me so uneasy. I know now I had a reason to be afraid.
Why are things so different? Oh God were they about to pull the plug?
These anxious employees hated this task and every gut wrenching Thursday
Unfortunately part of their job description included pulling the plug
This gloom room somehow evoked instant panic in us as it reeked of recent death.
It still lingered heavily everywhere from just seven short days before
We were this week's group of the leftovers chosen to be
gassed....never to see the light of day or draw a breathe any more.
Our cries inside were pleating and frantic. Our extermination time had come
This must have taken its toll on this anxious mid morning crew
The manager and kennel workers hated this ongoing weekly assignment however.
They were all employment obligated to follow procedure through.
Then all of a sudden we freaked and agonized ....voicing blood curdling unmuffled
sounds
The atrocity of this injustice could not be fully understood by innocent dogs
but yet this deed must be satisfied.
Our pitiful bodies were racked with pain; blood and exploding bodily fluids
All the while I was praying...Please oh No......don't make us die
The 30 minutes
was an eternity. I was now sorely aware of what was happening around me
I kept praying for them to open the inhumane
hissing chamber door
There appeared a dog guardian Angel who heard
my desperate final plea and said
"This cruelty will not be permitted or repeated
any more!"
I will breathe a bit of life into you
When the door opens you will be carried out
and barely alive
It will move the world and our society to reconsider
The unfairness to those who truly felt torture
and terror before they finally died.
Yes....Amazing Grace might be perceived as
God's miracle
Mankind let this be a wakeup call from the
Higher above me and you
We must end this cruel and inhumane gassing
practice in Georgia.
Our Divine Maker mandates we as humane beings
with conscience
and must follow through.
I can only imagine how hard it would be for
that and other Shelter workers to have to put
down animals, especially by gas. It would cause
many to be driven to tears
and relentless stress.
We know not every animal can be saved.
The lethal injection for now in most cases is
indeed the gentler solution even though
it too can have consequences as stories are shared.
Spay..........Neuter.......Crusade......
Please encourage Adoption
Amazing Grace has spoken to the whole world in
behalf of those who no longer have a voice!
This was written by me to remember those who died
on the 20th as well as to offer my
thoughts to the hundreds of terrified ones who
have expired by gas in the past.
These are my own private thoughts. I am not against
euthanasia but I do
oppose the gas chamber method.
Our society must develop more humane solutions
for these souls.
Our Animal Shelters already bare so much of the
burden. Don't wait for others to offer
you solutions. We can all make a difference starting
in our own community.
Organize private individuals and businesses in
local areas to sponsor frequent adoption ads.
Pictures speak directly to our hearts.
There are many nursing homes now providing homes
to docile and/ or older cats and dogs.
The residents are benefited and lives are changed
forever.
Volunteer and Contribute! Support SPCA or any
of the hard working
Animal Shelter Organizations.
