Buried Treasure
You both came into my life when it was cold and dark
You were wild abandoned brothers who found shelter with me
I knew you both were rebel feral cats
You never learned to trust and sit on my knee.
I never gave up hoping you would someday sit by my side
That was probably never in the cards I knew
I never ceased to marvel at your survivor's mode
You wild instincts always got you through
You snatched food crudely from my shaking hand
I sometimes received a cautious nip or scratch
It's something I knew I could never understand.
This was not a statement but indeed a proven fact
I would watch you wash, groom and cuddle
You boys had each other, Just like two peas in a pod
I marveled at your amazing similarities
Our situation after 18 years was still odd.
The years are now almost two decates.
One of you is deaf and so confused
The others kidney's must be failing
I so much want to hold and hug both you.
The last week of your life started out like all the rest
But just like overnight you looked marked for death.
For the very fist time you allowed me to rest you in my arms
I cried knowing how much closeness will never be made up before your final breath.
This was at around 9PM you stayed near my chair.
I reached down to touch you but you did not seem to care.
I woke up at 3am and looked all over for you
The Angels had flown you away with only one thing left to do
I am empty and so very sad that I did not know you more
We dig your final resting spot very close to the garden door.
It was indeed the most unusual weather day.
It was the 4th of June with ever slightly blowing snow
That will always be remembered as a record breaker.
You chose such a unique cold day to go.
I look at your brother who is a larger version of you
Will he come to terms with his loss? Only time will tell
Our other beloved tame cats in the Light Realm await you.
God Speed! You are loved and will be restored and made well.
