Woes of a Stray
Once upon a time not so long ago
I met a brave furry one in the Pet Realm with a sad story of woe.
He told me he had once been covered with blood from head to toe.
He had been tricked, abused and terrified which really took its toll.
He bore deep scars of a battle which made me feel his pain.
He still walked with a limp but here he will no longer be afraid or maimed.
I took a look at him and documented his story well.
He was indeed a lucky one to have escaped a living hell.
There are a few cruel folks out there who place no value on an animal's life.
They take it upon themselves to be a Judge, Jury and Executioners
By justifying it okay to hurt anything that causes you strive.
It was late in the autumn in a place deep within the settled states.
He really wasn't sure of its name but glad to have escaped an almost certain fate.
He was branded a lowly no good feral with no reason to be allowed to draw another breath.
This maniac was certainly not a stranger when it came to maiming
and causing an animals agonizing death.
This poor furry one was captured and the situation was indeed so very grave.
It's only because of his Guardian Angels that he made it out unscathed.
He hated any and all furry ones. He deeded all of us his natural enemy.
I was about to be another statistic. I just wanted to fight to get free.
I was trapped in a rusty cage that smelled of fresh death.
It was small and as dirty as it could be.
I felt so empty, scared and all alone.
"What was going to happen to me?"
The wire cut my face and paws as I tried so hard to escape.
It looked like I would never live to see another date. The cage had a broken empty water dish.
There was nothing but rot to eat. I was in a panic and never knew
if my heart would know another beat
My prison was shoved under an old thistle tree. The evening rain made my blood run cold.
The sounds of the night would terrify even the most seasoned soul.
I knew the day had past and now it was late into the night
I heard voices in the early morning and that's when I felt more fright.
His voice was filled with hatred and when he looked me in the eye
I knew he would take pleasure as he had in others by watching me slowly die.
His friend said just let it go. It's just a harmless kit.
That made him even madder practically throwing him into a raging fit.
That's when I knew my end was oh so near.
How would I escape this trouble? I just trembled with utter fear.
He said I might as well get it over with. I could see this was the end of my route.
He said to slowly open the gate. That's when I bolted quickly without a second doubt.
He said to his friend how could you be so stupid. Now look what you have done.
I'll never catch up with it now. The ____cat is on the run.
The other one must have been touched by my angel. What else could it possibly be?
He stood up for a wayward one who never would have had another chance to get free
I remember running and hurting until I fell exhausted on the ground
All I knew was that I had to head away from this doomsday town.
After days I saw a green meadow with cows and horses too
I was tired and so tattered I was not sure what to do.
I did not have to wait for an answer. you saw and took pity on me.
My fur was just a bloody mess and my paws ripped to shreds
I looked like death warmed over from my tail to my battered head.
What a pathetic but loving creature! Our home would suit you to a tee.
She said that I would never be allowed to suffer by man again.
I would be loved and protected from now to the very end.
I did not even try to resist and I'll tell the reason why.
Her voice was rich as amber honey and her hands never hurt a fly.
I knew I found a mistress and she had found a pet
Perhaps this was heaven on earth. How better can it get?
That was eighteen years ago and still I am appreciated here
I get lots of attention and certainly live without any fear
There's lots of daily grooming. I sit in the window box by the sun
Life would have been so different if I had decided not to run.
I am now old and filled with constant pain. I can hardly walk anymore
That's when I get carried and even more appreciated and adored.
The end is not so far away because the Angels will beam their light
I have prepared my mistress to release me. I must give up my fight.
She tells me it is okay because we will forever be together again
She shared a well kept secret I am her very best furry friend.
My life would have turned out so differently if you had not rescued me.
Dearest and beloved mistress I am indeed an extension of your family.
My Moral
It does not much matter who you are or what you were. Most of these precious earthlings
appreciate our warmth and unique character. It did not matter I lacked the proper papers.
I felt like Grimaldi such a beloved pedigree. Titles do not deem us to be truly worthy?
I am part of a true living legacy.
My advice is to be friendly and purr or bark a happy tune
You too will be cherished by a human and that will happen soon.
They really know the importance of sharing life with a loving pet
They are even very picky about your food and who will be your vet
The moral of my woe is that things can turn out well
Take charge of your own life and you too will have a happy story to tell.
I will await my Mistress even thought it's many decades away.
I will be here waiting for that glorious day.
Then life will be so perfect just like she promised me.
She makes that walk towards me . It will indeed be Heavenly!
A. Elativ
